Inspiration: The character of Astrid was heavily inspired by my current wife. Her personality traits, her figure, and her hair, everything comes from my beloved. As for the name Astrid, it comes from a song by The Legendary Pink Dots, while her surname, though quite common in Ireland, was inspired by the Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan. I simply tweaked the spelling slightly to McLaughlin.
