Inspiration: Marie-Claude was a real person during my teenage years. She lived next door to my grandmother, and the entire first part of *Virginity Lost* is true, from start to finish. Her mother wasn’t a doctor but a nurse, and there was no medical practice in their basement. Still, Marie-Claude was a firecracker, and I could have lost my virginity to her if I’d agreed to “play doctor”, as she so aptly put it. Her plan was to invite me to sleep in a tent, just the two of us. My grandmother put her foot down and forbade it! Even so, I did get my first kiss and experienced all the sordid questions described in the story. So, my Marie-Claude and the real one are identical in every point. I still fantasize about her more than forty years later!

Inspiration: Maeva was deeply inspired by an incredible woman I met in chat rooms in the mid-1990s. She was more than fifteen years my senior and went by the name “The Glove Lady.” Like me, she was a huge glove enthusiast, and she played a major role in helping me accept my fetish. I never met her in person, nor did I ever learn her real name, yet we chatted several times a week for a good ten years. We knew almost everything about each other; she was extremely wealthy but never made a big deal out of it. She passed away in the mid-2000s after battling Alzheimer’s disease for several years. Her daughter wrote to me personally to break the news, telling me that I was the first person outside the family to be informed. In her email, she explained that it had been her mother’s wish for me to know, as she considered me her most sincere friend. I was in shock and felt a profound void for years after her passing. The connection between Maeva and Charles is a real-life echo of the bond that existed between The Glove Lady and me. I pay her a personal tribute by making her the central character of my series, *The Manor*.

Inspiration: I’ve always had a major soft spot for Asian women. Their delicacy and petite stature, combined with their immense strength of character, have always fascinated me. I drew inspiration for the character of Lihn from a real Vietnamese student named Lihn whom I knew in high school. She was petite, very pretty, and very sociable, but she was a total firecracker! I was also inspired by Asian movies and series where tiny women take down strong men with a single kick. Since Lihn was adopted by a Quebec couple, she took her adoptive father’s surname: Langevin. My inspiration comes from Michel “Away” Langevin of the band Voïvod.

Inspiration: With the character of Joyce, I really wanted to immerse myself in the late 1940s. Back then, wearing gloves was a must for women, and it must have been a fabulous era for glove enthusiasts like me. Of course, Marilyn Monroe influenced the development of Joyce’s character, but I also drew inspiration from my maternal grandmother, who was a strong and charismatic woman. And including a lesbian in a story set in that era was, for me, essential, to show that gay people existed back then, and indeed have always existed.
